Work Order 15759 The overall project included a survey of a 8,000 acre ranch in Bosque and McLennan Counties. Aerial Photography, GPS, and Digital Topographic Maps were all utilized during this project. A portion of the project included a boundary survey of three tracts of land containing 243 heavily wooded acres, bound by 7,000 feet of highway frontage and 6,000 feet of river frontage. In addition to the boundary survey we provided a topographic and tree survey for design purposes. That included locating the 100-year flood plain on approximately 40 (mostly open) acres and providing a topographic survey on 1,800 feet of curb and gutter along a four-lane highway. To accomplish these tasks in a cost-effective, timely manner we took advantage of all available resources.
We utilized digital aerial photos and digital topographic maps in the planning stages of the boundary survey. To produce an accurate survey we used a Global Positioning System (GPS) to set horizontal control stations within and along the perimeter of the subject tracts. Using total stations and electronic data collection we were able to locate the monumented boundaries. The main challenge was to locate the 6,000 feet of heavily wooded riverbank without physically traversing and cutting a line along the riverbank (which would be time consuming). We took advantage of strategically placed horizontal control stations atop cliffs and open areas on the opposite side of the river. We used total stations, a boat, and a hand held laser meter to locate the riverbank. We estimate this saved our client several days of field time and money.
The end result was a timely, accurate and cost effective survey. The Wallace Group’s goal is to continue providing our clients with professional services. |
