The Wallace Group was retained as the surveying, civil, and structural consultant for the Cameron Park Zoo. The grading, paving, drainage, structural, and surveying requirements were great. Initially, the entrance road and retaining walls were not our responsibility. We were later awarded those items. We modified the original retaining wall design, accomplished the desired effect, and reduced the cost by nearly 50 percent. Keystone type retaining walls were substituted for reinforced concrete walls, saving several hundred thousand dollars. A raw water system was designed for irrigation and water features, reducing the use of treated water.
