New Police Headquarters Facility Completed for the Growing City of Harker Heights
When the City of Harker Heights built its new city hall in 1972, the Police Department occupied one room and three holding cells within that facility. In 2005, the Department had grown to occupy that entire structure along with the old fire station building located next door. Now, the Department is planning to move into its new police headquarters facility of 16,500 square feet in the Spring of 2007.
The City of Harker Heights, with a population of 25,000, desired a facility that would house the existing 50+ employees, and meet the needs of a future population projection of 30,000.
The Wallace Group designed the new facility that includes a secure holding facility to house up to 15 people with direct access for transport through a secure sally port. The facility also contains the Criminal Investigation Division, Patrol, Evidence Storage and Crime Lab, Administration and Records Department and a training/community room for over 50 people.
