The purpose of the Diversion Interceptor is to transmit wastewater flows from Lift Station No. 2 to the new South Treatment Plant. Lift Station No. 2 is now constructed adjacent to a major interceptor that originally flowed to the North Plant.
Peak wet weather measured flows from the North Plant were used to allocate current flows to the Lift Station. Basin maps, other lift stations, several decades of population data mapped into population densities, and long range growth were used to determine the ultimate flows.
HYDRA software was used to finalize the design of this major interceptor. Part of this main also followed a branch of Trimmier Creek. A substantial buffer between the interceptor and the creek provided safety during construction and for future connectors or maintenance.
As a portion of the East Side Infrastructure Project, this project included:
- 3,740 linear feet of 36-inch sanitary sewer pipe
- 11,101 linear feet of 30-inch sanitary sewer pipe
- 105 linear feet of 21-inch sanitary sewer pipe
The project included an Alignment Study, Interceptor Design, Rights-of-Way and Easements, Creek and Channel Crossings, and Surveying. The final construction cost was $1,492,450. The final design and bidding took place after the Katrina and Rita Hurricanes. These storms had an effect on pipe and fuel pricing, but budgets were adjusted in advance of bidding.
